Launching Fairytalewood.com

Hi there, Chris here. I’m never happier than when I’m covered in wood shavings as wood spins dizzyingly on the lathe. The heady smell of freshly cut wood, the tension between MY intent and the woods wish, the delight of revealing natural beauty, previously hidden. Heaven.

Yet, its really n the sharing with others that a turned piece comes alive and takes on a life beyond our workshop. That means other labours, digital ones mainly, to create a place to share and sell our work: fairytalewood.com

Like everything we do, we did not want to be ordinary – we wanted to tell a story with our site. Yes we sell wood turned objects, but we also imbue them with a story, some magic and a little mystery. So too our site has to reflect this. We wanted it to be easy to find what you want, to match your perfect turning with your home, personality and story. It was, to us, out of the question to turn to a third party and have them build us a generic shopping experience the same as everyone else. Both in style and content, we knew we had to climb the mountain of individuality ourselves.

For 3 months I’ve worked hard to create this site, this experience (if you will indulge me), a place that feels special, perhaps a little magical but still operates correctly and efficiently for a client. I’ve learned wordpress and CSS deeper than I had ever any wish to do so. We’ve focused deeply on security and data processing one day and the next on debugging conflicting plugins. Gradually, like a piece of unknown wood on the lathe, the beauty revealed itself, the shape took form and, we hope, the results speak for themselves.

I’m sure there are things I’ve missed. If you find them, let us know, perfection doesn’t happen on day one but by continuous improvement. Please help us out. As we built this site ourselves, we can improve everything about it with your help. Use our contact form to let us know.

We hope you’ll love our hand made treasures.

We hope you’ll enjoy visiting Fairytale Wood.

We hope I can get back to wood turning! I miss the shavings.
