This striking plate is crafted from rare Wild Olive wood—a material distinct from regular Olive wood, prized by woodturners for its dramatic, swirling grain. The wide, serpentine lines in the grain inspired us to add a coiled serpent motif to the rim, inlaid in warm copper and nestled into a bed of golden epoxy. The snake’s scales shimmer in gold and rich shades of blue-green.
Intentionally headless, the snake wraps fully around the plate, symbolising the eternal cycle of life, death, and rebirth. This is the Ouroboros, the world serpent, an ancient symbol of infinity seen across many cultures. In Norse mythology, it appears as Jormungandr—the colossal sea serpent whose final battle with Thor ends in mutual destruction.
Ouroboros symbolises the endless cycle of renewal, the unity of beginnings and endings, and the interconnectedness of all things.
